I admit it, I’m one of the few remaining people in the world who has never played the viral sensation, Among Us. I will be among the many around the world who will be curious enough about the upcoming one-shot manga to seek it out and read it though. Yes, that’s a sentence that you just read correctly; Among Us is getting an official manga adaptation.
Details are pretty scarce on how this is going to work. We do know that it will be a one-shot that will appear in the April issue of Bessatsu Corocoro, which is due to hit store shelves in Japan in February 2022. What we don’t know is anything about who is creating the one-shot or if the story is going to read like a bad playthrough of the game. I’m also very curious to see how the artist makes the simple character designs from the game do things like emote.
A glance at the magazine’s offerings does give us a slight idea of what we can expect though and if you’re hoping that I’m about to say a deeply nuanced story, you’re going to be disappointed. Bessatsu Corocoro is a children’s magazine with stories that are mostly adaptations of video games and toys. I’m guessing this means that whatever we get from this one-shot will not be particularly intense but I could be tragically wrong (it’s been known to happen before).
Regardless, could this mean that an anime adaptation of the hit game isn’t that far away? If a manga adaptation is possible, it’s entirely possible that we could get an OVA at the very least if not an entire series. It wouldn’t be the first time that we’ve seen a western property get the anime treatment… for better or worse.
