Originally scheduled for March 28th, Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel III. spring song was one of many media or events that suffered a delayed release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, since the state of emergency was lifted back in May, reported cases of the coronavirus have remained at an all-time low to a point where 50+ cases in a single day in Tokyo was considered a spike. Even the most heavily infected areas have begun to slowly open their businesses with health and safety precautions in place, as issued by the Japanese government. Popular and crowded tourist attractions such as Tokyo Disneyland will have reopened by July. With theme parks opening their gates, surely that means movie theaters can do the same, correct?
With that in mind, Fate fans rejoice! After numerous delays and the indefinite postponement of the newest film, the final arc of Heaven’s Feel is finally arriving in theaters. Today it was announced that Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel III. spring song will be released on August 15th in Japan. Every film trailer was also re-published on YouTube, with the newly released date shown (all currently blocked from viewers in Western nations. As with Heaven’s Feel I. presage flower and Heaven’s Feel II. lost butterfly, Japanese recording artist Aimer had teamed up with music composer Yuki Kajiura for each film’s theme song. It was announced by Aimer last December at a live show that the theme song for Heaven’s Feel III would be titled “春はゆく” (Haru wa yuku, lit. “spring comes”). The song was scheduled for public release on March 25th to promote the film during it’s intended release. Although the film was postponed, the single was released in physical stores as well as through digital distributors.
Aimer and Sony Music announced they would be re-releasing a special version of the “春はゆく” single for the premier. The CD will contain all three pieces of theme music from the Heaven’s Feel film series, as well as a new, previously unreleased version of “春はゆく.” It will also come with a DVD containing all three music videos, as well as the Fate anime music videos for the first two films. The special edition of “春はゆく” will be released on August 19th.
Despite the film’s delay, and the single originally being released under Japan’s state of emergency during the COVID-19 pandemic, “春はゆく” saw great success in Japan, peaking at number 3 on the Oricon music charts. After this, Aimer will release her 19th single, “SPARK-AGAIN,” set to be the opening theme for the second season of Fire Force.
