You might know the name Isuna Hasekura from his hit series Spice and Wolf, but he’s done more than that in his career. One of his other projects was a three-episode visual novel titled WORLD END ECONOMiCA which was translated and released through Steam around the world. Unfortunately for fans of the project, it ended in 2013. Over the years, however, the title has generated a fan base around the world who wanted to see more from this title and now they will finally get their chance.
Crowdfunding campaigns were launched on both Campfire and Kickstarter to make an anime trailer of this visual novel which will be used to attract the attention of potential staff members who can help turn this title into an anime down the line. Both campaigns have goals set for approximately $46,000 to be met within 50 days. The Campfire campaign has already surpassed its goal with almost seven million yen (almost $71,000) in its first day. The Kickstarter campaign is lagging behind with only a little over $16,000 raised as of this writing, but that number is steadily climbing.
The visual novel (published by Sekai Project) is still available on Steam and is described on the Kickstarter as:
Humanity’s last inhabitable frontier, a city on the moon.
Haru, a young boy who was born on the moon, has always dreamed of standing where no man has stood before.
To do so, he needs capital.
In order to build his capital, he gets involved with the stock market, a market that can swallow a man’s desires and sometimes crush them.
Haru meets a beautiful, mysterious girl named Hagana on the moon and the wheel of destiny begins to turn…
On the Kickstarter, Hasekura states that all the money raised will go towards advertising the project and getting the word out to as many industry professionals as possible.
This is a unique crowdfunding campaign in that they aren’t trying to make a full series or even an OVA of WORLD END ECONOMiCA, but rather just a trailer. Whether that is appealing enough to put your money towards is entirely up to you.
