A hot topic of conversation this year has been the big remake of Final Fantasy VII set to hit the Playstation 4 console on March 3rd, 2020. Finally, after months of waiting, we’re getting our first real look at it thanks to a trailer released at Tokyo Game Show 2019 on September 11th!
The nearly three-minute trailer shows off tons of cutscene footage, some snippets of the battle system, and much more!
First revealed at E3 2015, this remake of the classic Playstation title has been a long time coming. Fans have been waiting breathlessly for this title to hit store shelves and this trailer seemingly only served to amplify their excitement and expectations.
Originally released in 1997 (though development for the title started back in 1994) for the Playstation, Final Fantasy VII went on to become one of the most beloved titles in the franchise’s history. The story follows the hero named Cloud Strife who joins a terrorist organization which is bent on stopping a huge corporation from destroying the planet by using its life essence for energy. For those who came from a later generation and didn’t get a chance to play through this instance, I won’t spoil anything else about the story but you can certainly expect some fantastic plot twists to be thrown your way. The title has gained a reputation for being one of the best Japanese role-playing games ever and was awarded “Game of the Year” honors by many different critics and outlets.
This isn’t just any remake, however. Slated to be released in multiple parts, this remake will not only have enhanced animation but it will also feature new characters (introduced in the above trailer), and changes from the original story. What will these changes be exactly? Your guess is as good as mine but I can promise that there will be many people taking March 3rd off from work next year in order to find out.
