Am I the only one who is super pumped for the upcoming TV adaptation of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story? No? Good!
On September 8th, brand new details were revealed online regarding the upcoming television anime, including a premiere season, new cast and crew, a promotional video, and the third key visual showing off the show’s characters!
The SHAFT produced anime will air in January 2020 and feature the Doroinu half of animation troupe Gekidan Inu Curry in charge as chief director and handler of series composition. The original Madoka Magica series director, Yukihiro Miyamoto, will return as assistant director. Also returning to the crew is veteran director Akiyuki Shinbo, but only as the animation supervisor. Unfortunately, Yuki Kajiura will not be returning to compose the music but rather that role will be filled by Takumi Ozawa. Meanwhile, the theme songs will be performed by the groups TrySail (OP) and ClariS (ED).

In the two-minute promotional video, the first half is filled with ominous music and a lot of narrative exposition before diving into more story animation in the second half with one of the theme songs as the background.
Also revealed in the announcement is that veteran actress Kana Hanazawa will be joining the cast as the new character Kuroe.
This series is adapting the mobile game Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story, which recently celebrated its second anniversary. The game itself is based on the original hit dark magical girl anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which aired back in 2011. In the original series, the story follows a young girl named Madoka Kaname who discovers that magical girls exist in the world but that their lifestyle is not as glamorous as it first appears. Meanwhile, a mysterious girl named Homura has appeared at her school and seems hellbent on keeping Madoka from signing the contract with the strange creature named Kyubey. In the side story mobile game, the story follows a young girl named Iroha who is searching for her missing sister in the city of Kamihama.
